Man, I don’t envy Peter Jackson directing these Middle Earth movies. They’re monstrous undertakings, to be sure. The only bright side is that he’s already done three of them in the past, and he’s probably learned a lot about shooting them, such as cutting the production into “blocks”. At the beginning of this second Production Diary for “The Hobbit”, they’ve already finished up the first block, with two more to go.
The film stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Ken Stott, Graham McTavish, William Kircher, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter, Rob Kazinsky, Aidan Turner, Peter Hambleton, John Callen, Jed Brophy, Mark Hadlow, Adam Brown, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Jeffrey Thomas, Mike Mizrahi, and is due out December 19, 2012.
No doubt they’ll need all that extra time from production to release date for all the CGI this thing is going to need to get ready for consumption. Good luck there, boys! Meanwhile, the biggest challenge ahead of me these next few years is deciding if I should get some new sneakers. Hey, there are lots of issues to weigh, you know!
Here’s the first Production Diary in case you missed it:
