Sequel to Clive Owen’s Shoot’em Up is a Go

Dig it, kids. The guys behind “Shoot’em Up” loved the experience so much that they’re doing a sequel. Which is kind of a surprise; I mean, the film barely made any money at the box office ($12 million or so), but apparently it made enough that someone, somewhere (New Line, to be exact) have given writer/director Michael Davis the go-ahead (and of course, the bucks) to make a sequel to the story of a British hitman/nanny with a gun played by Clive Owen and his too-hot-for-words prostitute girlfriend played by Monica Bellucci. This time around, instead of just having to save one infant, they have to save an entire bus from terrorists. No, just kidding. No word on what the sequel will be about yet, just that it is being fast-tracked for a 2008 release, aka it’s a beat-the-strike movie.

More from FirstShowing:

Our scooper has close ties with the studio and reported to us that the script was turned in and approved and “it is in pre-production and the leading actors have signed on for the second film.” There was no confirmation on a release date, but it looks like it was going for a pre-strike shoot and in-line for release next year. Is New Line trying to start a Saw year-to-year franchise? If there is one movie that could do it, it would be Shoot ‘Em Up!

A new “Shoot’em Up” movie every year? Hmm, probably not. I don’t think either Clive Owen or Monica Bellucci would have the time to keep doing a new one, especially Owen. He strikes me as a very busy fellow.
