I hate these sequels to reboots, mostly because I can’t figure out what to call them. What are they, exactly? Reboot sequels? Sequels to reboots? Remake sequels? You can’t refer to the first movie as “the original movie”, because they’re reboots, so that makes it a little harder to reference them. So what do you refer to them as? “The original reboot”? Eh, you know what I’m trying to say.
Anyways, word from Bloody-Disgusting is that the sequel to last year’s horror reboot hit ($40 million opening weekend) has been scheduled for an August 2010 release date, which means it’ll be out less than a year after the first (remake) one. That’s a pretty fast turnaround, but then again, considering the (lack of) complexity with these franchises, knocking them out one at a time ala the “Saw” films probably isn’t too much of a stretch. Besides, there’s plenty more CW pretty faces to raid.
In the sequel, Jason Vorhees returns to slaughter more stupid teens that wander into his woods. That’s just my guess, of course, I could be wrong.
And a bit of trivia: apparently this “Friday the 13th” movie will be the 13th installment in the franchise, if you were to count the originals as well. I’m still trying to figure out how Jason came back from outer space in the future, but maybe they’ll explain that in Part 20.
