Eight Machete Clips Chop Their Way Across the Border

As the old Hollywood saying goes, no publicity is bad publicity. Let’s see if that’s actually true when “Machete” opens later this week, because the film’s definitely been getting its share of free publicity thanks to its promise of “pissed off illegal Mexican slicing and dicing some evil gringos in America”. Rodriguez couldn’t have timed the film more perfectly if he tried, though you gotta admit, even if the film flops at the box office, it wouldn’t exactly be the first time a Robert Rodriguez film hasn’t caught on. Unless there is “Spy” or “Kids” in the title, Rodriguez’s films have always been pretty much hit and miss with the moviegoing audience.

In any case, here are eight “Machete” clips, in varying degrees of Red Bandness (some are, others ain’t) that have been released throughout the week. I don’t expect to see anymore (seven is quite a lot), but who knows, more might be added as the week chugs along toward the film’s Friday opening. Update: Added an eighth clip from Joblo.

After a violent shakedown from a notorious drug lord nearly kills him, Machete, a renegade Mexican Federale and tough-as-nails vigilante for justice, roams the streets of Texas, working as a day laborer. When Machete is hired by a crooked US Senator to execute a covert hit, Machete is double-crossed and forced to run from the cops and an endless stream of assassins. But what they don’t know is that Machete is looking for them so he can settle the score.

Starring Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, Rose McGowan and directed by Ethan Maniquis and Robert Rodriguez.

The pissed off Mexican gets really pissed off September 3, 2010.
