I liked your comment (Shade) til about halfway. From there, it went from something insightful to something irritating in a heartbeat. Warriors are warriors; and if the theme of the Seven Samurai is being utilized then obviously there will be similarities between mercenaries and these samurai. For one, neither have anything, which is actually the point for these MERCENARIES to be compared to RONIN-samurai.In a world where you only have your gun and your wit (skill, and will to survive) to save you, it poses, even a little, likeness to that of a samurai and his soul (his sword).

Talented writers will be able to find ways to make both movies relate to each other in the most epic way. The seven mercs. unite for a common purpose to protect a third-world village instead of fighting for their own greed. They'll risk their lives for their battle, and the rest will unfold as such. I understand what you're saying, i really do, but you have to give a chance and believe that they won't ruin a movie like this. They already publicly said it was a "remake," so people will immediately compare the two, which means that they'll be embarrassed should they fail. It IS a re-imagining; they're only copying a plot, not the story in its entirety (CHARACTERS, etc...).

I don't know but the last time I thought about it, a re-make is basically taking the idea and changing it to fit a person.

In a way, what the Weinsteins are doing is a remake.
Nobody and I mean NOBODY even the most talented scriptwriters and directors should NEVER EVER TOUCH THIS MOVIE. Or in fact any of Kurosawa's movies.

Kurosawa's movies have a special touch to them that make you feel sorry for the people involved, makes you cry more when a person dies, whether it be the other side. His way of storytelling is one of the best there is.

Seven Samurai wasn't an action flick.
It was about the emotion and the chivalry of what the Samurai's had. The Bushido code and such.

What do Mercs have that Samurai's have? Nothing.
Machine guns? The sword was a symbol for everyone in Seven Samurai.
Nobody should even trying to do a remake.
And a re-imagining is a re-make.
Re and make are two words that when used means to make something that had been made before.
Whether the concept, the theme, or the storyline.
It is still a remake and it should be stopped.
