In case you were wondering, Neil Burger’s upcoming movie “Divergent” is about … being divergent. Or is that being divergent…ly? Divergent…ing? Decent looking trailer, but I suspect the film’s premise will still come across as overly convoluted to anyone who hasn’t read the books. That’s the problem with filming a movie based on a book that has a very elaborate conceit.
But hey, look, romance with a hunky dude! Oh yeah, who doesn’t like that? No doubt about it, whoever cut this trailer was definitely targeting a very specific segment of the population. Hint: they’re young and female.
DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a future where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late. Based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth.
Starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ashley Judd and Tony Goldwyn.
The diverging begins next year, March 21, 2014.
