Shawn Levy Will Take James Cameron’s Fantastic Voyage Redo

“Real Steel” and “Night at the Museum” director Shawn Levy has been tapped to helm the James Cameron-produced remake of “Fantastic Voyage”, reports Deadline. Levy got the gig after “Bourne” guy Paul Greengrass was initially attached but ended up leaving the project; Levy also beat out fellow directors Darren Aronofsky, Timur Bekmambetov, Jonathan Mostow and Louis Leterrier for the gig.

Since Cameron is involved, and since 3D is still “in”, the film will, of course, be shot in 3D.

In the 1966 original, scientists and their submarine are shrunken to microscopic size and injected into the blood stream of a dying VIP in order to save his life from the inside. Problems, of course, arise almost as soon as they enter the bloodstream and must deal with the host body’s natural defenses, as well as whatever is killing him.

Look for it in 2013 or thereabouts.
