Shazam! is Not Dead After All, Gets New Writer

The last time we heard about “Shazam!” and his magic lightning bolt, the movie was dead. D-E-D. Dead. Or at least, that was according to screenwriter John August. As it turns out, the old axiom is true, Hollywood really doesn’t tell screenwriters anything, because the movie is still very much alive over at Warner Bros., and the studio has just paid another writer to work on the script, taking over where August and others left off.

Not only is the project still alive and in development, with writer Bill Birch now taking his turn on the scripot, but according to Variety “Get Smart” director Peter Segal is still onboard to direct and produce via his Callahan Filmworks.

“Shazam!” the movie will still follow Billy Batson, a young boy who transforms into the Superman-ish superhero Captain Marvel when he says the magic word “Shazam!” Word is, Warner Bros. plans on an Origins Story that stays faithful to the original comic books. So does this mean no “Shazam!” movie starring Justin Timberlake?

Face it, kids, a lightning bolt is cooler than a big lame S. Know it, Live it!

I’m 72 and have been waiting for a decent film about Capt. Marvel since I was a kid. If it is made….Please don’t mess it up with cutesy trying to be hip shit. Justin Timberlake? “PLEASE” , if that were to happen I’d shoot myself. The Rock would be a good black Adam though.

Absolutely, and if he can’t let Arnold Vosloo (Imhotep from the Mummy movies) bulk up and do it. He voiced the part amazingly in the animated short.

Patrick Warburton for Captain Marvel and Rufus Sewell for Black Adam.

Juggy I love you man and usually your casting is spot on but this time I’m not seeing it. Both are too old for the parts. Hell Even my backup for Adam, Arnold Vosloo is too old really. Though when he was younger Warburton would’ve been perfect. I can’t really think of anyone that can play Captain Marvel, maybe Jon Hamm since he isn’t going to play Superman, and the part shouldn’t look too young, or the guy from True Blood who was also up for Superman. Dwayne Johnson is the only person I can see as Black Adam and he’d be awesome in the role. If this ever comes to fruition i can see them aging Billy Batson up a bit to his mid teens as opposed to tween-to early teens.
