Simon Pegg is Scotty in Star Trek 11

Hey may not be Scottish like the original Scotty character, but British actor/director/writer Simon Pegg will just have to fake the accent, because Variety reports that the “Hot Fuzz” star has signed on to star as Scotty in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek 11. He joins a cast that already includes Anton Yelchin, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana as young counterparts of the familiar Enterprise crew, with Leonard Nimoy reprising his Spock role and Eric Bana stepping into the villain’s role. The original Scotty (full name Montgomery Scott) was portrayed by James Doohan, who was actually born in Canada to Irish parents.

The Enterprise comes home Christmas Day 2008.
