I don’t know what “Gatchaman” is, so this could be completely going against the original anime/manga/source material, but as purely an outsider and layman, this first full-length trailer for Toya Sato’s live-action “Gatchaman” movie looks pretty rad. It also looks like Toho put a lot of money into this thing, and the suits actually look quite cool. But like I said, not an original fan, so I wouldn’t know how much they’ve deviated from the original product.
In any case, check out the full-length trailer (unfortunately it’s in Japanese) and a smaller 30-second spot, probably a preview of the full-length trailer.
The five serve as agents of the International Science Organization in Tokyo at the beginning of the 21st century. Galactor, a mysterious group whose technology far surpasses that of humans, has declared war on the entire world and has already subjugated half of it. A mysterious crystal-like object called a “stone,” is humanity’s only hope. Those who are able to draw out the power of the “stones” are forced to train as Earth’s ultimate weapon, a five-person team called “Gatchaman.”
The movie stars Tori Matsuzaka, Gō Ayano, Ayame Gōriki, Tatsuomi Hamada, and Ryōhei Suzuki.
Japan gets it later this August.
