While Sam Worthington’s reboot of “Clash of the Titans” is sets to rock your world this summer (in totally unnecessary 3D, no less) there’s another Greek Gods-based action movie looking to get in on the action — Tarsem Singh’s “War of the Gods”. In the arena of dueling Greek Gods projects, “Clash” is just about ready to hit theaters, while Singh’s movie is still adding people to its cast. The latest addition includes “Slumdog Millionaire’s” Freida Pinto, who will be joining Henry Cavill on the movie.
In the film, Pinto will play Phaedra, an oracle priestess who joins a Greek warrior named Theseus (Cavill) on his quest to prevent a cataclysmic war between the immortal Greek gods that could destroy all of mankind. You know, that old thing.
(Curiously, the film is currently listed on IMDB.com as “Dawn of War”, which makes me wonder if the title “War of the Gods” is too close to “Clash of the Titans” for everyone’s liking.)
While it’s moving pretty slowly if it wants to clash (ahem) with Louis Leterrier’s “Clash of the Titans” remake at the box office, “War of the Gods” does have the added benefit of being produced by a couple of guys who did Zack Snyder’s “300”. Director Tarsem Singh (“The Fall”) is also immeasurably more creative and visionary in his filmmaking chops than Leterrier, who is a decent orchestrator of mayhem, but definitely not someone you would ever associate the word “visionary” with.
Singh will direct for Relativity Media, with production set to commence in April.
