The Blaxploitation spoof flick “Black Dynamite” has been making the rounds for a while, and recently did enough work on the festival circuit to land it a theatrical distribution deal. I never noticed it until I saw a trailer for it in front of the Gerard Butler movie “Gamer”, and it had the entire audience laughing for the entire two minutes-plus of the trailer. It probably won’t get enough of a theatrical distribution to become a major hit, but this has “cult film” written all over it. And the film’s star? That’s a nearly unrecognizable Michael Jai White of “Spawn” fame.
Black Dynamite: a gun-toting, nunchuck-wielding, ladies man and soul brother. When “The Man” murders his brother, pumps heroin into local orphanages, and floods the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor, Black Dynamite is the one hero willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.
Starring Michael Jai White, Byron Minns, Jimmy Walker Jr, Tommy Davidson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Nicole Sullivan, and directed by Scott Sanders.
Blowing up in limited release October 16th, 2009.
