Remember yesterday, when we told you that the “24” movie had been put on hold and won’t happen anytime in 2012 as expected? Well, turns out, we might have to wait a little longer — at least until everyone involved gets their shit together and make this thing happen.
Here’s the lowdown: 20th Century Fox wants to make a “24” movie with Kiefer Sutherland … but they only want to pay the star/producer $1 million for his troubles and keep the budget under $30 million. Sutherland and producer Brian Grazer says they need at least $40 million. Nevermind the fact that this movie will probably earn that much when it opens, and that Sutherland has proven that when it comes to anything “24”-related, he deserves a big paycheck.
The fact that 20th Century Fox seems intent on going the cheapskate route with the movie is mind-boggling. “24” is an International brand, but even if overseas markets decide they’d rather not partake in Jack Bauer’s big-screen adventures for whatever reason, there is still a massive domestic audience waiting to eat it up. And how exactly are you going to make an International-set “24” movie on a $30 million dollar budget? Disney just spent around $300 million making a movie set on Mars starring an unknown actor, for God’s sake.
Apparently Kiefer Sutherland, who was expected to start work on the “24” movie while on hiatus from his new Fox show “Touch”, is none too please about the studio trying to nickle and dime him. I don’t blame the guy. Like his fans, he’s probably anxious to capitalize on Jack Bauer’s popularity. Who knows what the mood for a “24” movie will be in a few more years…
