Who says you need to know Russkie to enjoy a decent “Solomon Kane” trailer? Mere days after the Russian version hit these here Interwebs, the English version has appeared on YouTube. Now that we can understand what everyone is saying, it gives us more of the plot, namely that ol Solomon has retired, but as is always the case, the bad guys keep pulling him back in. The lovely young girl batting her lashes at him certainly helps, no doubt.

The first part in a trilogy series, Solomon Kane is an epic adventure adapted from the classic pulp stories by Robert E. Howard, creator of “Conan the Barbarian.” Solomon Kane (James Purefoy) is a 16th Century soldier who learns that his brutal and cruel actions have damned him. Determined to redeem himself, Kane swears to live a life of peace and goodness but is forced to fight once more when a dark power threatens the land.

Directed by Michael J. Bassett, the film stars James Purefoy, Max von Sydow, Pete Postlethwaite, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Alice Krige, and Mackenzie Crook.

Okay I thought it was badass when I couldn’t understand it, but now…not so much. No seriously who am I kidding, this thing looks like all the cool Van Helsing tried to be (and I’m one of the few who wasn’t completely outraged at the movie) but with the flair and brutality only Howard can imbue in a character. Solomon Kane is on my list of comic/novel films to see now.

Gad’s zooks, it seems to feature the reasonably accurate usage of a regional accent! But I’ll take that back if the moment any character says “Cor blimey, guv’nor” or, the force forbid, “Tally ho!”
