Someone Thinks Tom Cruise’s Valkyrie is “Sure to be Crap”

So says Berthold Von Stauffenberg, the son of the man who tried to kill Adolf Hitler nearly 70 years ago, a story that will be told in the movie “Valkyrie”, to star Tom Cruise as said would-be assassin. The younger Stauffenberg apparently doesn’t like Tom Cruise or his devotion to Scientology, telling a German newspaper that Cruise’s devotion to Scientology is really “off-putting,” and that he thinks the movie is “sure to be crap.” He goes on to say, “I am not saying that Cruise is a bad actor — I cannot judge that. But in any case, I fear that it could turn into horrible kitsch.”

But wait! That’s not all!

Von Stauffenberg goes on:

“He should keep his hands off my father. He should climb a mountain or go surfing in the Caribbean. I don’t care, as long as he stays out of it.”

Heh, I like the part about how Cruise should go climb a mountain or something. That’s pretty hilarious. I’m guessing Von Stauffenberg is a pretty old guy, so can you just dismiss this as the ramblings of an old German guy?

Besides, it’s all the pieces are in place for “Valkyrie” to be a damn good World War II drama/action movie.

Let’s see: You’ve got Cruise as the star, so that guarantees all the money director Bryan Singer needs, so production values will be maxed out. And who wrote this thing? Christopher McQuarrie, one of the best damn writers out there right now. The movie has also nabbed Carice van Houten as the female lead, and had previously added Kenneth Branagh to the cast list. How can a movie with that kind of talent be bad?

I also think all this Tom Cruise bashing is getting a little silly. People don’t even need a reason to bash the poor guy now, they just come out and does it, and no one calls them on it. It’s getting absurd. The guy is a good actor, he makes good, entertaining movies, and he’s always brought his A-game to every project. GET OFF HIS BACK ALREADY!

But hey, if this old German guy wants to see Tom Cruise go rock climbing, here’s Tom Cruise rock climbing. Happy?
