In case you couldn’t guessed by the title, yes, this is indeed the sequel-in-title-only to WWE Studios’ “12 Rounds” starring Jon Cena, which really didn’t do all that well in 2009, but I guess it did well enough that the folks at WWE felt justified in giving it a direct-to-DVD sequel anyway. Like WWE Studios’ “The Marine” franchise, this looks like another unrelated sequel, with a new wrassler slotted in as the hero. The target audience here, of course, is the undemanding action viewer and WWE fans. Check out the first trailer for the film below.
“12 Rounds: Reloaded” is directed by Roel Reiné, the go-to guy for direct-to-DVD sequels to moderately successful theatrical films. Reine counts direct-to-DVD sequels for “The Lost Boys”, “The Marine”, and not one, but two “Death Race” films to his credit.
As paramedic Nick Malloy, Orton jumps into overdrive in this pulse-pounding, thrill ride filled with gripping suspense! Malloy receives a terrifying call from a vengeful psychopath connected to his past, and the maniac (Brian Markinson) threatens to unleash a murder spree unless Nick can complete a series of 12 challenges without involving the cops or missing a single deadline. With no time to spare — and his own wife’s life on the line — Nick must piece together cryptic clues and hunt down the killer before it’s too late!
“12 Rounds: Reloaded” also stars Brian Markinson, Cindy Busby, Sean Rogerson, and Patrick Gilmore.
Body slamming fools on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and WWE Studios this June 4, 2013.
