Aside from the fact that Jay Baruchel’s voice sounds like an 80-year old’s that has been chain smoking since he was a toddler, Disney’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” looks like it has the makings of decent family entertainment. Here’s a long clip from the movie, including introductions by co-stars Nicolas Cage and Baruchel. It’s about mops. Lots of mops. Dancing and sentient mops, apparently.
Balthazar Blake is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath. Balthazar can’t do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler, a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protege. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It’ll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
Starring Jay Baruchel, Nicolas Cage, Monica Bellucci, Alfred Molina, Robert Capron, Teresa Palmer, Ethan Peck, Toby Kebbell, Alice Krige, and directed by Jon Turteltaub.
Release the mops July 16, 2010.
