Go figure, “Cloud Atlas”, the new movie from the Wachowskis and German director Tom Tykwer (“Run Lola Run”), is due in theaters later this year. You wouldn’t know that given how little you’ve seen of the film until, well, yesterday, when a slew of images were release. And today brings a 6-minute extended “First Look” trailer for the film that is, without a doubt, stunning. You can clearly see that the Wachowskis and Tykwer are going for one ambitious, visually and narratively speaking, movie. You gotta wonder how long the film is, though, given how much is crammed into this trailer. There’s also a Director’s Commentary video from the filmmakers that talks about what they’re going for. In a word, it’s complicated.
An exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.
The big cast includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, Keith David, James D’Arcy, Götz Otto, Zhu Zhu, Doona Bae, and Xun Zhou.
