SPOILER: An Avenger Will Make a Cameo in Thor, But Who?

Well, there goes Marvel’s big easter egg for fans in their upcoming “Thor”. Obviously this post comes with a huge SPOILER WARNING, so go ahead and skip it if you’d rather be surprised by what Avenger does and does not show up in “Thor” to talk smack with the guy with the really big and heavy hammer, ala what Nick Fury did with Tony Stark at the end of the first “Iron Man”, or how Thor showed up (in a manner of speaking) in the second “Iron Man”.

Okay, still here? Then I assume you don’t care if the cameo gets spoiled for you.

So let’s get to it…

The Wrap has confirmed via a source that has seen an “early cut” of Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor” that Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner, does indeed appear in a cameo in the film. Renner himself has speculated that he might appear in “Thor”, the first of Marvel’s big superhero movies to open, as a way to tie the universe together, similar to how the aforementioned Nick Fury appearance in the first “Iron Man” and Tony Stark in “The Incredible Hulk”.

The Wrap’s source wouldn’t say where Hawkeye would show up in the movie, but at the very end, as a “Wow, look, it’s Hawkeye!” treat would be my guess. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, meanwhile, will NOT be popping up. Which is kind of odd, given that SHIELD is all over “Thor”, at least from the trailers.

“Thor” strikes in May 6, 2011, but you can see Hawkeye in his full bow-slinging glory in “The Avengers” a year after that on May 4, 2012.

(By the way, we know that Marvel wants another female superhero to compliment Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in “The Avengers”, so how about Hawkeye’s Mockingbird? With Hawkeye in the picture, it would make sense, right?)

YAY! Can’t wait to see this. I’m more of a Green lantern fan than Thor but the connecting universe of Marvel is overshadowing all that.

Now I know that the Green Lantern trailer is much shorter than the long Comic Con one and even the newer official Thor trailer but COME ON! The GL trailer looks like a total camp fest to me. Thor looks like it will be everything comic fans have been waiting for. I was on the fence with Ryan Reynolds as Hal, then I thought about his performances in some of his more dramatic roles and thought “okay”. Alas my hopes for a realistic, gritty portrayal of Green Lantern was dashed in the teaser with the tremendous amount of wise cracking and poor CGI. Hopefully I am proven wrong but I don’t think I will be. As for the cameo by Hawkeye I don’t think it comes as a surprise to anyone that he will have some face time in Thor. After reports, rumors and Renner himself speculating the only question left is “in what capacity?”. A mockingbird tie in would be awsome! Bring in Ali Larter, Tricia Helfer or Milla Jovavich to fill the costume and were in buisiness!

Dude i said Thor is getting me more interested. Lol.

This is great news. Well it’s too early for Mockingbird to show as anything more than just a S.H.I.E.L.D black operative for now. I like the take on the Avengers EMH animated series and how they handled Mockingbird’s attitude is great! She seems to have a very cool, sarcastic and tongue in cheek type of attitude. Not campy at all but she’s funny and insulting, a great character that seems to be able to put Hawkeye’s smart mouth in it’s place. Hawkeye talks a lot of crap, though he can back it up. I can picture him talking all that crap to Thor and not even really knowing what he was up against, then finding out and still talking sh*t afterwards.

Renner is definately the guy to play Hawkeye. His role in S.W.A.T., The Hut Locker and The Town show his sarcastic humor. I really hope that they handle these characters well. Both Hawkeye and Mockingbird have the potential to be great inclusions in the franchise. I can’t wait to see what new characters are brought in as these films roll out. I could see Luke Cage, Ms.Marvel, Spider-Woman and Wonder Man all being characters that will appear in future installments.
