Stallone has “ideas” for an “Expendables” sequel should the first movie do well. Or as he puts it:
“If this does perform, I think it will open a little more liquidity in funding the sequel. I have an idea ready to go. People think doing a sequel is easy, but it’s not because you need the element of surprise. I’m going to try to do something that’s quite radical.”
“Open a little more liquidity in funding?”
Anyways, sequel talk on movies set to open is pretty normal, and I dare say, standard operating procedure for most Hollywood genre films. Wagging one’s tongue about a possible sequel (or in some cases, a wannabe trilogy) is pretty much what every producer, actor, or director does when their film is about to open, as a way of saying, “Look, this movie is so good, we’re already thinking about doing a sequel! No, forget sequel, we’re going for a trilogy!”
Most of the time it never happens. But given that “The Expendables” seems to be on track to open in the $30 million range (at least according to industry expectations), it’s looking good for more testosterone-fueled mayhem in the future.
Check out two latest clips from the movie, which not coincidentally, opens this Friday:
