Stallone Wants Willis To Be The Villain In The Expendables II

I feel so out of touch. It turns out that 64-year-old Sylvester Stallone is on Twitter and I’m not. At least he’s using his fledgling account in service of the greater good. One of his first posts not only dealt with the inevitable sequel to “The Expendables”, but it hinted at who Sly would like to play the villain. He wrote,

Had dinner with Bruce Willis last night. I want him in EXPENDABLES II as a super villain. What do you think?

Here’s what I think, Oh hell fucking yes! Even though the previews gave away most of the scene with Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Willis, that didn’t stop me from giggling like a schoolgirl the entire time they were onscreen together. I’d love to see Rambo and John McClane face off again.

Willis doesn’t play bad guys often, but this would be a perfect opportunity. He was already established as a shady CIA spook, and who better to be a super villain? I liked the “The Expendables” a lot, but one issue I had with it was that Eric Roberts, as the ex-CIA spook, wasn’t as bad a bad guy as he should have been. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Eric Roberts, and he was rad, but his character could have been used better, and apparently Stallone wants to rectify that situation. This would also take some of the residual “Cop Out” stink off of Willis.

Really? Your problem with the Expendables wasn’t the bad script and the even worse action sequences that you couldn’t tell what was going on.

I did say ‘one’ problem I had with the Expendables. There were more than one. And the fact that there wasn’t a single, central bad guy is a problem with the script. The guy from Dexter would have been a perfectly serviceable villain (but then they tried to make him human, which was a mistake), and Eric Roberts would have been a perfect antagonist, but the story never did enough to make you hate either of them as much as you should have.
The editing of the action (especially the finale) was probably the biggest disappointment of the film for me. It was a jumbled mess. But there is good action, too. Like the Jet Li/Dolph Lundgren fights, and the Randy Couture/Steve Austin fight was pretty rad.
It wasn’t an amazing movie, but I didn’t expect it to be. The story was exactly what you thought it would be, and if it wasn’t a bunch of big names it would have been straight to video. But it still kicked a lot of ass, and I enjoyed it.

Willis as villain? YES PLEASE!!! Remember how much fun he was as the main badguy in “Planet Terror”? Now just make him even worse. Yeah I could dig that.
