Studios may be bowing out of Comic Con by the dozens, but the Starz network is not one of them, and the paid cable net is more than happy to keep showing off their wares at the annual fanboy convention in San Diego. The network has announced that they will be bringing two new shows this year, “Spartacus: Vengeance” (the second season of “Spartacus”) and “Torchwood: Miracle Day” (the American-ized version of the British show and “Doctor Who” spin-off).
Attending the “Torchwood” panel (Room 20, 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time) will be stars John Barrowman (Capt. Jack Harkness), Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper), and new castmembers Bill Pullman (Oswald Danes), Mekhi Phifer (Rex Matheson), Alexa Havins (Ester Drummand), and Lauren Ambrose (Jilly Kitzinger). Also present will be writer Jane Espenson. Although “Torchwood: Miracle Day” will premiere on the network Friday July 8th, well before Comic Con International, Con-goers will be able to see a new episode called “Night of Dead” a day before its official airing on Starz.
For the second season of “Spartacus”, set to premiere sometime in 2012, the panel (Room 6BCF, 5:45pm PT) will include the new Spartacus himself, Liam McIntyre, along with stars Lucy Lawless (Lucretia), Dustin Clare (Gannicus), Manu Bennett (Crixus), Katrina Law (Mira) and Executive Producer and Head Writer Steven S. DeKnight.
The last time Starz brought “Spartacus” to Comic Con, they went all-out with the branding. It’ll be curious to see how hard they pitch it this year, now that the show is more established after the wildly successful Season 1.
