“Arrow”, the CW’s new take on D.C. comics emerald archer aka Green Arrow, has cast its leading man, and sorry, “Smallville” fans, it’s not Justin Hartley. Instead, it’s Stephen Amell, a CW regular player, who has been elevated to the show’s leading man.
In the CW’s new, “modern retelling” of the comic book superhero, Amell will play Oliver Queen, playboy socialite by night and vigilante superhero by day. Or is it the other way around? You can never tell with these CW socialites.
According to a recent character breakdown, this version of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow will be a “27 year old reformed bad boy, who after having spent five years shipwrecked on a tiny, brutally dangerous island in the South China Sea returns to town a different man. Or to be more specific, a tortured, thoughtful master of the bow with a ferocious determination to make a difference.”
“Arrow” is produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, with TV vet David Nutter assigned directing duties on the show’s pilot episode.
I know Amell doesn’t look like the traditional Green Arrow (older, funky soul patch), but he kinda looks like the New 52 version:
