Former “Saw” director Darren Lynn Bousman hasn’t exactly had a lot of luck with his movies post-“Saw”. While his “Repo! The Genetic Opera” has since become a cult hit, his other titles, “Mother’s Day” and “11-11-11″ were met with big thuds. In the case of “Mother’s Day”, it sat on the shelf for years. His latest is “The Barrens”, starring “True Blood’s” Stephen Moyer. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like “The Barrens” is going to get anymore eyeballs than “Mother’s Day” or “11-11-11″ did, though at least those films opened theatrically in limited release. “The Barrens”, meanwhile, is going direct to DVD/VOD in October. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying the first trailer and some images from the movie below anyway.
It’s known as the Jersey Devil, the winged beast spawned 400 years ago by Satan himself. Some say this creature still inhabits the dense pine forests of southern New Jersey, where Richard Vineyard (Moyer) takes his family for a rustic weekend camping trip. As the Vineyard family ventures further into the woods in search of the perfect campsite, Richard teeters on the edge of sanity. Welcome to a new kind of horror that lives – and kills – in a place called The Barrens.
Also starring Mia Kirshner, Erik Knudsen, Allie McDonald and Shawn Ashmore.
Explore the barrens on DVD, Blu-ray, or VOD October 9th, 2012. Or if you really want to see it on the big screen, you can demand a theatrical screening in your city via TUGG.
