Steven Seagal is a lawman. In New Orleans. No, seriously. This isn’t the premise of another lame direct-to-DVD action movie starring Seagal and the rap star flavor of the week. It’s really Steven Seagal, the former star of the “Under Siege” movies, as an honest-to-goodness real law enforcement officer working the mean streets of New Orleans in Louisiana. And get this: he’s apparently been doing this on and off for two decades now. Or at least, that’s what the spin is for the upcoming A&E Reality TV show called Steven Seagal: Lawman. Read on and be amazed, if you dare!
According to [A&E], Seagal has been working on and off as a fully commissioned deputy with the Jefferson Parish County Sheriff’s Office for nearly two decades. One of his stints found him assisting with recovery efforts during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
“Lawman” also will document his life off the beat, including his musical and philanthropic activities in the Big Easy.
“I decided to work with A&E on this series now because I believe it’s important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in Louisiana,” Seagal said of the new venture.
Seagal “helps fight crime because he cares about the community,” said Robert Sharenow, A&E’s senior veep of nonfiction and alternative programming.
I totally and completely shit you not, folks.
Steven Seagal: Lawman premieres in late 2009. Fire up them tivo! You’re finally able to tell your friends and family that you’re recording something starring Steven Seagal and not have them laugh at you to your face. Okay, they’ll probably still laugh at you, but it just won’t sting as much this time. Probably.
Below: Watch out, real-life bad guys! Steven Seagal is here, and he’s armed and … musical?
