I have actually heard of “War of the Dead” before, a zombie/horror movie set in World War II, but was surprised to find out that I hadn’t written anything about it yet. Well mind as well fix that now. Here are the latest updates on the movie. Originally titled “War of the Dead”, the film has since been re-titled “Stone’s War”, and is written and directed by Finnish filmmaker Marko Mäkilaakso. The film is a joint U.S./Finnish production, and follows a platoon of American and Finnish soldiers as they are sent to take a German bunker but ends up facing zombies and other horrific results of a German experiment. Damn Germans and their experiments.
A longer description of the film:
World War II:
Finland attacked the Soviet Union to reclaim areas which had been lost to the Soviets in the Winter War. This was known as the “continuation war.” During this period, the Nazis gained an opportunity to continue their secret tests on mankind on Soviet Territory. Undisturbed.
Captain Martin Stone (Andrew Tiernan – 300, The Pianist) leads an American unit; joining forces with an elite platoon of Finnish soldiers on a mission to destroy an enemy bunker. The Finnish Captain; Niemi (Jouko Ahola – Invincible, Kingdom of Heaven) and his Lieutenant; Laasko (Mikko Leppilampi – Pearls & Pigs) resent the American presence on the mission. Underestimating their enemy the troops are ambushed. As they try to regroup, they are suddenly attacked by the same soldiers they had just killed a few minutes earlier. What has made these dead soldiers rise from the dead? Evil forces or Nazi experiments? Who cares? It’s war; lets blow them away…
Starring Andrew Tiernan, Mikko Leppilampi, Samuli Vauramo, Jouko Ahola, and is written and directed by Marko Mäkilaakso.
The dead fights back March 2008.
