Stuart Beattie Writing and Directing I, Frankenstein

He went to war with the Chinese/non-Chinese in his directorial debut “Tomorrow, When the War Began”, and now longtime Hollywood writer/director Stuart Beattie is bringing his talents to the ongoing war between humans and monsters … and a guy named Frankenstein.

Beattie has signed on to write and direct the live-action take on the comic book “I, Frankenstein” for Lakeshore Entertainment, with an eye toward getting things up and running by Fall of this year.

“I, Frankenstein” will be based on the comic book by “Underworld” co-creator/actor Kevin Grevioux, and is set in “a modern-day world where the classic literary monster stands between humans and a host of other supernatural creatures looking to rise up and take over.” Essentially, Hellboy without the horns.

With Beattie signing on to not only write but also direct “I, Frankenstein”, with production set for as early as this Fall, it makes you wonder what’s going on with the two “Tomorrow, When the War Began” sequels that he was supposed to shoot back-to-back. Did he finish that? Is production on the two films ongoing? The film broke box office records in its native Australia, so it’s curious that it hasn’t gone back into production yet to capitalize on the heat of the first film’s success. (If, that is, it hasn’t.)

Anyways, look for “I, Frankenstein” in 2012.

Though it is very close to Hellboy in nature I like the concept. I look forward to the comic and the film.
