The Thieves (2012) Movie Image

The film is being billed as the South Korean “Ocean’s 11″, and it’s easy to see why. The film, a heist flick involving lots of characters and a big fat diamond, features an incredible ensemble cast, so the correlation seems to make sense in this case. Since learning about the flick last year, I’ve been anxious to get my hands on new material. I suppose this teaser poster will have to suffice until a proper trailer finds its way into my giddy little hands.

As per usual, here’s what the film is all about:

In order to let things cool down from their latest heist, Popeye and his group of thieves go to Macao on a job. But the mastermind behind this job is none other than Popeye’s old partner Macao Park, who escaped with 68kg of gold several years ago on their last job together.

Macao Park brought Chinese thieves as well but little did they know what Macao Park planned for each one of them. But his plan takes an unexpected turn when Popeye brings Pepsi, an old flame of Macao Park, to settle the old score. The thieves’ target is a $20 million diamond known as ‘Tear of the Sun’, kept safely away in a casino, brought there to be sold by a notorious Chinese fence. While working together to steal this fabled diamond, they all have their own agenda to keep the diamond for themselves. But who will succeed and live to see another day?

And, yes, you read that correctly: One of the main characters is named Popeye. Crazy! “The Thieves” stars Kim Yun-seok, Jeon Ji-hyeon, Kim Hye-su , Simon Yam, Angelica Lee, Kim Hae-sook, Oh Dal Soo, and Lee Jeong Jae. Look for it to hit South Korean cinemas this summer. The poster, as you can tell, has been embedded below.
