Summer Glau hasn’t had much luck with TV shows, despite appearing in a lot of really huge cult favorites. Unfortunately “cult” doesn’t always translate into “TV viewers”, so her shows have been, invariably, canceled sooner rather than later. The usually ass-kicking sci-fi babe has now joined the cast of NBC’s “The Cape”, where she will play the female lead opposite David Lyons. On the show, Lyons is a cop who is framed, and forced to become a criminal and masked hero called the Cape to clear his name. Glau will play Orwell, an intrepid investigative blogger (this is 2010, after all) who exposes corruption and takes on the bad guys. No doubt, given Glau’s extensive ass-kicking TV credentials, she’s a perfect fit for a superhero show where no one actually has any powers.
Simon West (“Con Air”) will direct the pilot for NBC. Glau’s last regular show was the sci-fi “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”. She’s also had guest stints on Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse”, which was, yes, also canceled.
