Summit Officially Announces Twilight 2: New Moon

Horror Movie News, The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) Movie, Twilight (2008) Movie — By Nix on November 24, 2008

In today’s totally WELL, DUH! movie news, Summit Entertainment has announced (actually, they announced it on Saturday) that the studio is officially moving ahead with a sequel to “Twilight”, to be based on the second novel in the series by Stephanie Meyer, “New Moon”. So why did Summit send out the press release on Saturday, of all days, and not wait for Monday after “Twilight’s” final weekend box office receipts came in? Well probably because they already knew that the movie had made a whopping $30 million plus in just one day. Yeah, that’ll do it.

Here’s the PR from Summit:

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES TWILIGHT SEQUEL – NEW MOON

Los Angeles, CA November 22, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series titled, New Moon. The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.

Stephenie Meyer stated, “I don’t think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I’m thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON.”

So there you have it, Twilighters. “Twilight 2: New Moon” is on the way. Here’s a description of the novel and what to expect:

Recovered from the vampire attack that hospitalized her in the conclusion of Twilight, Bella celebrates her birthday with her boyfriend Edward and his family, a unique clan of vampires that has sworn off human blood. But the celebration abruptly ends when the teen accidentally cuts her arm on broken glass. The sight and smell of her blood trickling away forces the Cullen family to retreat lest they be tempted to make a meal of her. After all is mended, Edward, realizing the danger that he and his family create for Bella, sees no option for her safety but to leave. Mourning his departure, she slips into a downward spiral of depression that penetrates and lingers over her every step. Vampire fans will appreciate the subsequently dour mood that permeates the novel, and it’s not until Bella befriends Jacob, a sophomore from her school with a penchant for motorcycles, that both the pace and her disposition begin to take off. Their adventures are wild, dare-devilish, and teeter on the brink of romance, but memories of Edward pervade Bella’s emotions, and soon their fun quickly morphs into danger, especially when she uncovers the true identities of Jacob and his pack of friends.

Ah, teenage vampire love triangles. Those were the good old days…

I am very excited to hear about New Moon, although we kind of already knew it would be happening. It’s nice that it is official.

I went and saw Twilight Friday night. I liked it but didn’t love it. Taking into consideration the fact the production company is pretty new and the budget they were working with, it was good!

I just hope New Moon receives a much larger budget. I feel the writer and director need to hit on that love and attraction that Edward and Bella have on a deeper level. That’s what makes these books so great, Edward is like the perfect man. He’s dark and mysterious something you shouldn’t want but you have to have; and at the same time he is a gentleman and would do anything and I mean anything for you.

I am so happy that hey are making New Moon, its going to be so………awesome when Jacob and Edward are going to fight! Who the heck would win, there both super strong (atleast I think they’re both strong-of corse Edward is) thats going be so cool, I can’t wait!

This movie was really great. 95% of the time the movies are not as good as the book because of course they have to cut things out due to time. I think that they did good with this movie and with the time they had. They were able to show their emotions quite well I thought. I love the first time Edward smelled Bella and the first kiss. My gosh it looked really did a convincing job with the emotions they were trying to portray.

The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that Edward is supposed to be so fit and beautiful that he looks like he was chiseled out of Marble but when he showed his sparkle he had hair on his chest. Umm yeah No ….”Robert you need to shave for the next book”. I know it could just be me but I really didn’t like that.Hahahaha

Having said that the movie was really great. I do think that Steph should follow the Harry Potter movies and make it 3hrs so you can get more of the story and actors. Believe me I will go see it more then once.

    • Lily says:

Stephenie doesn’t make Harry potter books, nor movies

      • Corpsette says:

Ohh I understand that but if she did like the Harry Potter movies the Twlight movies will be longer and give us more story. If the movie is good we the fans will go see it over and over again and sit there for 3hrs or more. All Iam saying is Steph should just not be afraid of having the movie being long.

Like Titanic it is 3 1/2 hrs or something and I know I saw it 3x at the movies with my friends. The same goes with Harry Potter movies. I have seen those mulitple times as well.

I thought the movie was very good, but not great. I did enjoy it though. I hope New Moon and Eclipse will be longer and have more romance in it.

Saw it Thrs at 12 and Fri at 7 and will see it again and buy it when it’s out. Every female in my family from 12 to 52 L O V E the Twilight searies.

Stephenie, Please finish Midnight Sun. It’s so awesome to see the flip feelings of Edward. It gives the story such a deep understanding.

I actually thought twilight the movie was a poor adaptation of the book. The acting was horrible, it was missing key points and why did they add extra scenes. The casting was crappy and where was the character development from the book. Bella was supposed to be shy (she wasn’t), Edward was supposed to be amazingly gorgeous, swift, loving and not a jerk like he was in the movie. And what’s with Edward climbing trees!! The book is a love story and I didn’t feel that the movie showed the love between Edward and Bella. The actor portraying Carlisle was amazingly creepy! He didn’t fit what Carlisle was supposed to be. I feel that the acting could have been a lot better and the casting crew could have done a better job picking its cast. I didn’t go into the movie with high expectations at all but the movie was just horrible….down right horrible. I don’t understand why summit entertainment would release another movie. Its all about the money! I personally think that Stephanie Meyer is a sell out. She’s also in it for the money, which sucks. Her book is amazing but yet she let MTV and Summit Entertainment ruin her original idea. All in all, the movie sucked, the acting was crappy and the dialog…where was it.

liz-Thank you! Thank you for having a down to earth opinion. The more I think about the movie the more I realize there was nothing I liked about it. The acting, the poor excuse for special effects, the terrible music, the horrible directing…the list goes on and on and on…

      • Erin says:

Did anyone else feel like the movie dragged on through endless staring between Edward and Bella for the first 45 minutes? I know the book moves slowly to start off with but in the movie you don’t have Bella’s thoughts to break the monotony.
I thought Kristen Stewart had the same facial expression the whole time. I like Robert Pattinson, but in Twilight he sounded like he was reading off an autocue. They both looked right, but acting quality isn’t something you can fix with bigger budget.

  • Su says:

Yay! for the New Moon and PLEASE replace the director Catherine to Sofia Copploa, maybe she’ll do a better job.

  • sam says:

Twilight was a major disapointment. The filming of it was horrible, the acting was even worse. The movie compleatly misses the realationship between Bella and Edward, and Bella and Jacob. The speical effects were stupid. They may as well not of had any.

  • Phyllis says:

I am absolutely thrilled. I am reading Eclipse now. The movie Twilight wasnt nearly as great as the book was.

  • rosy says:

hey i just love this movie it is grt and it also tell abot vampire and human relationnship

  • Envy says:

I think the first one plays great honor to the truth of the book sure a few( and i mean VERY FEW ) points were lost in translation but name one book to movie thate near as good (other then Stardust!! I think the second movie will be as good if not better due to the budgeting but i MUST KNOW CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM IS ROSALIE GETTING A MAKE OVER!?!?!? I have heard so many rumors about a new girl having to play her due to time constraints if this is ture then the rest of the cast will have to REALLY PICK UP THE SLACK in a mojor series liek this if you cant finish with all the ORIGINAL CHARECTERS ONLY then you might as well not even start (just a personal opinion on thet ) but if really does mess it up to really draw us in i think the ENTIRE original cast should be used and only them

    THANKS FOR READING MY RANT
