Summit Officially Announces Twilight 2: New Moon

In today’s totally WELL, DUH! movie news, Summit Entertainment has announced (actually, they announced it on Saturday) that the studio is officially moving ahead with a sequel to “Twilight”, to be based on the second novel in the series by Stephanie Meyer, “New Moon”. So why did Summit send out the press release on Saturday, of all days, and not wait for Monday after “Twilight’s” final weekend box office receipts came in? Well probably because they already knew that the movie had made a whopping $30 million plus in just one day. Yeah, that’ll do it.

Here’s the PR from Summit:

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES TWILIGHT SEQUEL – NEW MOON

Los Angeles, CA November 22, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series titled, New Moon. The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.

Stephenie Meyer stated, “I don’t think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I’m thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON.”

So there you have it, Twilighters. “Twilight 2: New Moon” is on the way. Here’s a description of the novel and what to expect:

Recovered from the vampire attack that hospitalized her in the conclusion of Twilight, Bella celebrates her birthday with her boyfriend Edward and his family, a unique clan of vampires that has sworn off human blood. But the celebration abruptly ends when the teen accidentally cuts her arm on broken glass. The sight and smell of her blood trickling away forces the Cullen family to retreat lest they be tempted to make a meal of her. After all is mended, Edward, realizing the danger that he and his family create for Bella, sees no option for her safety but to leave. Mourning his departure, she slips into a downward spiral of depression that penetrates and lingers over her every step. Vampire fans will appreciate the subsequently dour mood that permeates the novel, and it’s not until Bella befriends Jacob, a sophomore from her school with a penchant for motorcycles, that both the pace and her disposition begin to take off. Their adventures are wild, dare-devilish, and teeter on the brink of romance, but memories of Edward pervade Bella’s emotions, and soon their fun quickly morphs into danger, especially when she uncovers the true identities of Jacob and his pack of friends.

Ah, teenage vampire love triangles. Those were the good old days…

Below: Let’s see, the bloodsucking vampire, or the nice looking Native American boy…

I think the first one plays great honor to the truth of the book sure a few( and i mean VERY FEW ) points were lost in translation but name one book to movie thate near as good (other then Stardust!! I think the second movie will be as good if not better due to the budgeting but i MUST KNOW CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM IS ROSALIE GETTING A MAKE OVER!?!?!? I have heard so many rumors about a new girl having to play her due to time constraints if this is ture then the rest of the cast will have to REALLY PICK UP THE SLACK in a mojor series liek this if you cant finish with all the ORIGINAL CHARECTERS ONLY then you might as well not even start (just a personal opinion on thet ) but if really does mess it up to really draw us in i think the ENTIRE original cast should be used and only them

Oh crap not another POS Twilight movie? Those books were horribly written and the movie was worthless, poorly cast, and badly executed. I hope they churn out the next 3 movies in this series fast so we can all get over what a train wreck of a writer Stephanie Meyers is and get on with our lives not to mention leave all of the annoying hype with this series behind. Then maybe there will be some room for someone who writes GOOD vampire fiction to make a movie.
