Sunday News Bits: Step Up 5, Ninja Turtles, Tyler Perry’s Latest, and Game of Thrones

Well it’s Sunday, and looking around the Interwebs, I see that there were a lot of news items I missed during the week. (Okay, so maybe I didn’t so much as “missed” them, as I ignored them.) Being that I am a responsible movie blogger, I’ve decided to put them all into one post for your convenience. Please to enjoy.

First up is the first poster for “Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor”, from Tyler Perry (in case you didn’t “get” that from the title of the movie).

According to the studio press release, this one stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Lance Gross, Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Williams, Robbie Jones, Renee Taylor and Brandy Norwood and is written, produced, directed, and catered by Tyler Perry. Yes, Kim Kardashian also stars in this one.

The plot of “Temptation” is “a bold exploration of the intrigue and perils of infidelity”. Plus, this really hot poster. (So what, no middle age sassy black woman with a bad wig in this one…?)

Channing Tatum in Step Up (2006) Movie ImageLove’em or hate’em, the “Step Up” movies make money. Even when they don’t make money, these things are so cheap to make, utilizing zero stars, that they end up making money anyway. Which is probably why Summit Entertainment is already gearing up a “Step Up 5”, hiring screenwriter John Swetnam to write the fifth installment.

Yes, these things actually have scripts. (Sort of.)

Scott Speer, who directed the fourth installment, “Step Up: Revolution”, will return to do the honors again behind the camera. The plot this time around will “build to a big dance-off and the intention is to get the leads of the previous films to return in cameo roles.”

That would include Channing Tatum, who as you may recall, starred in the first movie and did a cameo in the second one. Whether they manage to get Tatum to return will depend, I suspect, on how seriously Tatum takes himself these days. Then again, he does owe “Step Up” for introducing him to his wife…

Are those Heroes in a Half Shell getting ready for their close-up? Yes, according to Production Weekly, who recently tweeted this:

Jonathan Liebesman (“Battle: Los Angeles”) will direct the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, currently going by the title “Ninja Turtles”. Cause, you know, that’s cooler.

And finally, here’s the latest promo spot for HBO’s “Game of Thrones” Season 3, set to premiere this March 31st.

Man, Westeros has really gotten modern since Season 2…
