Super 8 Finally Reveals a Glimpse of its Rampaging Alien Creature

I guess we’ll find out this weekend if J.J. Abrams’ super duper secretive marketing approach pans out when his “Super 8″ opens for all the world to see this Friday. He certainly found success with “Cloverfield” doing the exact same thing, but I gotta tell you, you’d be hardpressed to find anyone who isn’t a movie geek or Internet fanboy who even knows anything about “Super 8″, and as a result, are excited about seeing it. Obviously word of mouth could sell the film post-opening day, as it did with “Cloverfield”, so who knows. Anyways, with Friday fast approaching, Abrams and company have put out a faux “unedited” Air Force video that gives you, towards the very end, a glimpse of the alien creature that will be running amok in the movie proper. It’s not much, but it does give you size to the creature, which is pretty damn huge.

Set in Ohio in 1979, a troupe of six youngsters are using a Super 8 camera to make their own zombie movie. One fateful night, their project takes them to a lonely stretch of rural railroad tracks and, as the camera rolls, calamity strikes – a truck collides with an oncoming locomotive and a hellacious derailment fills the night with screaming metal and raining fire. Then something emerges from the wreckage, something decidedly inhuman.

Starring Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills, and AJ Michalka.

I’m still not sold on this one. Just not a fan of Abrams and I’m not a fan of giant monster movies anymore. So far this is just Cloverfield with a different setting and point in time with overdone Spielberg homages? I dunno…I’ll still see it but just can’t get excited for anything Abrams.

I thought that was really cool. There were similar snippetts in Cloverfield. I’m looking forward to checking this out.
