The Syfy Channel, perhaps looking to expand their line-up beyond a couple of decent shows in their stable (“Alphas” and “Haven” being pretty much the only thing watchable on that channel nowadays, since the rest of their line-up is taken up with crappy reality TV shows about ugly people chasing ghosts, UFOs, or wrasslin’). has ordered a pilot script for a one-hour drama to be based on the DC Comics character.
The story will center on Booster Gold, a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time. Instead of chasing criminals, however, his main priority is chasing fame and money. But Booster Gold discovers that being a hero takes more than just a megawatt smile, and that the future doesn’t happen without first protecting the present.
I’m not the biggest D.C. fan, but the Booster Gold character has always struck me as so utterly D.C.-ish, which is to say, so kiddie based and nearly impossible to take seriously.
Greg Berlanti, one of the writers on “Green Lantern”, will develop the show with “Fringe’s” Andrew Kreisberg, who will also write the script.
Here’s what a live-action Booster Gold recently looked like when he showed up on “Smallville”. Kinda hard to make a guy who is covered in a gold uniform and funky goggles look cool, but I suppose they didn’t do so bad here:
