There have been rumors circulating for a little while that Sylvester McCoy (“Doctor Who”) is going to play Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit”. Apparently that is no longer the case. He is still up for a large role, but not that of the protagonist.
“I am being cast in The Hobbit,” he said. “We’re currently in negotiations – there are two of us under consideration. It’s not the Bilbo role, but could be bigger.”
The One Ring speculates that McCoy may be up for the part of Radagast the Brown, a small character in the book that is rumored to have a beefed up role in the film. Radagast is an ally and confidant of Gandalf, and was sent to help the denizens of Middle-earth in their fight against Sauron.
I’m sure McCoy could pull off a wizard without much trouble, but it’s too bad, because he already looks pretty damn Hobbity.
