T.J. Hooker: The Movie

T.J. Hooker Movie — By Nix on July 6, 2009

If you’re wondering how they could possibly turn a show like T.J. Hooker into a movie, then wonder no more: they already did it with Starsky and Hutch, and it appears the idea will be the same — a big-screen action-comedy that, says Variety, will revolve the title character and his father, whatever that means. Probably that they’re both cops, and T.J. Hooker will be a young buck, and there will be lots of explosions, comedy, and wacky bad guys and what have you. Or Hooker will be the old guy, and his kid shows up. Nah, definitely the first one.

The only good news from this is that Chuck Russel, who directed “The Mask” and “The Scorpion King”, as well as the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie “Eraser” and who I think is an underrated action director, is currently in negotiations to take the helm. Russel hasn’t directed anything since 2002’s “The Scorpion King”, but he does have a movie called “Northern Lights” that has been in development since last year, but so far nothing has come of it yet.

The original series starred Star Trek’s William Shatner, and co-starred Adrian Zmed, Heather Locklear, Richard Herd and James Darren. It was produced by the prolific Aaron Spelling, who pretty much produced everything back in the ’80s. David Foster, Ryan Heppe and original series creator Rick Husky will produce the big-screen adaptation, with writers Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson (the Earth-burrowing “Tremors” franchise) tackling the script.

Below: “Haha, kid, my shotgun is bigger than your handgun. William Shatner wins again!”
