Miike fans living in the UK will have plenty of reasons to rejoice this May, courtesy of the fine folks over at Revolver Entertainment. The beloved director’s latest samurai endeavor “Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai” is finally headed to DVD, a fact which makes me quite happy. I’ve been waiting for this one for what seems like forever, though my tendency to exaggerate the passage of time may have something to do with this. Still, I’m jazzed for its release.
Check out this official production description:
From legendary filmmaker Takashi Miike (13 Assassins,Audition) comes a classic tale of love, honour and revenge amidst the fall of the Samurai in 17th Century Japan. Seeking a noble end, poverty-stricken Samurai Hanshiro requests to commit ritual suicide at the House of Liu, run by headstrong Kageyu. But after being told a tragic story of another Samurai s agonizing suicide, that of Hanshiros close friend Motome, Hanshiro sets in a motion a tense showdown of vengeance against the house of this feudal lord.
No word yet when the film will find a home here in the States. As soon as that happens, we’ll pass the word along to you. While you’re waiting for May 7th, 2012 to arrive, why not revisit the trailer for “Hara-Kiri”. You’ll find it hanging out below.
