Take a Bite out of Jim Mickle’s Impressive Trailer for Stake Land

I’ve been hearing about Jim Mickle’s “Stake Land” for a while now, and I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve seen of it so far. Unfortunately, it’s an indie horror movie, which means the chances of it opening anywhere near me on April 22nd is pretty damn remote, alas. Until I do get to check this bad boy out myself, have fun with a new trailer and poster for Mickle’s post-apocalyptic vampire movie “Stake Land”.

America is a lost nation. When an epidemic of vampirism strikes, humans find themselves on the run from vicious, feral beasts. Cities are tombs and survivors cling together in rural pockets, fearful of nightfall. When his family is slaughtered, young Martin (Gossip Girl’s Connor Paolo) is taken under the wing of a grizzled, wayward hunter (In the Cut’s Nick Damici) whose new prey are the undead. Simply known as Mister, the vampire stalker takes Martin on a journey through the locked-down towns of America’s heartland, searching for a better place while taking down any bloodsuckers that cross their path. Along the way they recruit fellow travellers, including a nun (Kelly McGillis) who is caught in a crisis of faith when her followers turn into ravenous beasts. This ragtag family unit cautiously moves north, avoiding major thoroughfares that have been seized by The Brethren, a fundamentalist militia headed by Jebedia Loven (Tony award-winning actor Michael Cerveris) that interprets the plague as the Lord’s work.

Starring Nick Damici, Connor Paolo, Danielle Harris, Kelly McGillis, Sean Nelson and Michael Cerveris.

This could be the Vampire flick i’ve been waiting for. I mean I’m looking forward to “Priest” but it’s very sci-fi oriented. This sounds like one part “Mad Max” or any other pot apocalyptic film and one part “I am Legend” and one final part “John Carpneters Vampries.”

Reminds me of (most recent) Zombieland. Had a good quality to the trailer. Poster also looks cool. Will keep an eye out for it.

I’ve seen this compared to Zombieland on other sites and I don’t get it. Zombieland was a comedy with zombies and never felt like it was post-apocalyptic(the amusement park still had electricity). After all i’ve heard of Stake Land and seeing this trailer, the only similarities are in the names.

I’m guessing it’s the result of the title, combined with the young hero narrating that gave people flashes of Zombieland. From what I’ve seen, they couldn’t be more different.
