Keanu Reeves? As a samurai? No, you’re not having a post-Thanksgiving, turkey-induced nightmare. Director Carl Erik Rinish’s “47 Ronin” features “The Matrix” star as a sword-wielding badass named Kai who is out for a little revenge. The film, which also stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Kou Shibasaki, and Tadanobu Asano, is currently slated of open on November 12th, 2012, though that date is certainly not set in stone. Individuals who are overly curious to see what Reeves looks like as a samurai are instructed to direct their attention to the image embedded below. Truthfully, the guy doesn’t look that bad, though it’s his acting that I’m most worried about.
Here’s what the film is all about:
Kai (Reeves), an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of the 47 Ronin. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors. … Inspired by styles as diverse as Miyazaki and Hokusai, Rinsch will bring to life the stunning landscapes and enormous battles that will display the timeless Ronin story to global audiences in a way that’s never been seen before.
The aforementioned samurai-centric imagery awaits.
