Take a Look at Vin Diesel’s Riddick Promo Reel

Vin Diesel loves his fans. That’s the impression you get when you watch this, from the looks of it, a cellphone shot/homemade promo by Diesel for his upcoming “Riddick”, the sequel to “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick”. I saw the vids online last night, but it kept disappearing, which told me The Powers That Be doesn’t like it being out there. I honestly don’t know why, it doesn’t really show anything from “Riddick” except some concept art, with director David Twohy explain some concepts. The rest of the promo consists of old footage from the first two movies. In any case, Movieweb has the video up.

In the upcoming third installment of the popular sci-fi franchise, Riddick get’s betrayed by the Necromonger army and is left for dead on a desolate planet. He has to fight for survival against alien predators and must deal with two squads of bounty hunters, who are coming after him to collect the bounty for the most wanted man in the galaxy.

According to the promo, “Riddick” is due out in 2011. That seems highly optimistic given everything Diesel has on his plate at the moment, and the production time of a big sci-fi action movie like “Riddick” being what it is. I’m going to guess either 2012 or 2013 at the earliest.

Glad this is actually moving forward. I loved all the Riddick films, even the animated feature. I'm glad they're getting back to basics for this one. I almost want that jackal creature to be the Hellhounds from “Chronicles” and have that be their native planet. Seeing how he was able to get close to one so easily. Also I have to applaud some of the more obscure alien designs. What made the creatures in Pitch Black so interesting was their design. And this seems to be moving in a similar direction, but definitely a cross between the two movies.
