It seems that every single time I mention cult Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike these days, I feel the inexplicable need to boldly defend his recent cinematic endeavors. And while “Yatterman” proved that he could blend his warped sensibilities with a mainstream flavors, the teaser trailer for the upcoming family flick “Nintama Rantaro” — which is based on a popular Japanese anime — suggests otherwise. Miike is definitely enjoying his stint in the realm of inoffensive big-budget motion pictures, though I think it may cost him a few fans in the process. I’ll stick by the guy until he dies, but seeing stuff like this definitely makes it a little difficult. Thanks to Twitch for making my fanboyism increasingly cumbersome to defend.
Not sure what I’m talking about? The aforementioned teaser awaits.
