Teaser Trailer And Poster From Transformers: Dark Of The Moon

The first teaser trailer, promo poster, and official image for Michael Bay’s third Transformers film, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”, have all been released. The teaser doesn’t reveal much, there aren’t even any giant space robots until near the two-minute mark, but it does link the Transformers to the 1969 moon landing, which is something. The sweeping nature of many of the moon shots also seem like they’ll look pretty awesome in 3D.

Bay showed some of the footage, in various stages of completion, to a bunch of reporters, and here’s what Collider had to say about the sneaky peek into the movie:

[B]ecause [Bay] lifted the veil on the story and some of the massive action set pieces, I can tell you with certainty the 3rd “Transformers” movie looks to be the biggest and possible the best of the trilogy. He knows the second one wasn’t what it should’ve been and he’s aiming for a huge improvement in terms of story and action…I saw an action set piece that looks so fraking amazing, even with people firing guns at nothing and some shots just animatics, I was completely invested in the scene and I could follow exactly what they were trying to do. I was blown away by the footage. Trust me, the 3rd movie is going to be a huge improvement and you have never seen action on this scale. It also has a story!

While I’m not particularly a fan of either of the first two “Transformers” movies (just my opinion, I know there are a lot of fans out there), even I’ll admit that this footage does look cool. The moonscapes are well done, and I’m curious how they’re going to connect the Transformers and Apollo 11. My interest has been aroused, and isn’t that the whole point of a teaser trailer?

Looks cool. I have no expectations for this so maybe going in fresh it will surprise me. The effects are well done as always. I also like the moon landing tie in. Very intriguing.

Two things: is it me or is that the MOST HUMAN looking Transformer yet? And Who the hell was that?? I want to know!!!

    • B-Flash

I’m pretty sure it’s Alpha Trion, father figure/mentor to Optimus and if I also remember correctly he was a prisoner of Shockwave at one point in the comic.

      • B-Flash

Oh and he was also said to have built Optimus & Ultra Magnus.

Good call. I was actually thinking that.

Looks promising, but I have to wonder if the Awesome Bay will keep his promise

  • Andrewarbogast

Is that supposed to be Unicron?

    • Anonymous

Unicron makes sense; it’d fall in line with the animated movie and provide for a bit of fan service.

But this isn’t the cartoon, and that doesn’t look like Unicron, plus he’s too small. Alpa Trion maybe.

        • Andrewarbogast

I actually think he looks similar to Unicron. Yellowish/gold body, human like face. All he’s missing is the big horns coming off his head, but they’re some-what there. And you can’t really tell the size from the trailer, it looks like the camera goes into the moon and he’s chilling there. Maybe the moon is Unicron? ha

          • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

He looks to benevolent to be Unicron. And unless this thing IS the moon he isn’t big enough. Unicron is PLANET sized. I think the look was an homage to the look of the Autobot Ark in the mountain from the original series, with the dorment TFs inside and all. And I’m still gonna go with Alpha Trion. Shockwave has already been revealed as the villain and trying to do another “Hidden big Bad” after “The Fallen” wouldn’t work. Besides Unicron would be almost the entire budget. LoL

It looks like they’re taking a more serious approach this time. The movie seems to have a different tone. Maybe someone new in the staff or something has a big affect on the feel of the movie.

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

Nah. Bay just got too much backlash for Revenge of the Fallen. It really should’ve gone darker in the second film.

      • Anonymous

Exactly. I doubt anyone expected Fallen to fail at the box office and the logical, “Empire Strikes Back” thing to do would’ve been to end on Optimus’ death and wrap up a trilogy in number 3

        • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

          Exactly.

          Exactly.

  • Ulik

Yeah, that would have been ideal then bring in HotRod/Rodimus Prime and Ultramagnus. Or someone to take over the matrix like they did in the cartoon movie(which most people still haven’t seen).

  • me

i think that this big guy on the moon is Rodimus Prime.joust think a bit, color and shape of robot.

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

Well unless they’re making Rodimus Prime Optimus’ predecessor and not his successor it’s not him. Alpha Trion with a different color scheme (Hot Rod’s) makes more sense.
