Tekken Japanese Trailer and New Images

Like another movie based on a popular fighting game, Dwight Little’s “Tekken” looks like it’s getting the heavy Asian push, but anyone outside of the Continent will have to rely on the Internet to get anything decent until the film finally (if it does, that is) make it to the States. I’m talking about “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li”, of course. That movie, er, was not so good. Hopefully “Tekken” will be better. In any case, thanks to eagle-eye reader IronFist, it looks like the official Japanese “Tekken” site has updated with a new batch of images from the movie, including a new Japanese-subtitled trailer. Check them out below.

Based on the popular fighting videogame of the same name, “Tekken” is a high-octane action movie about a young man named Jin Kazama (Jon Foo) who discovers that holds a great power and must battle a team of elite fighters in a tournament called Tekken who will stop at nothing in order to get it from him.

Starring Luke Goss, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Chiaki Kuriyama, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Jon Foo, Gary Daniels, Kelly Overton, Cung Le, Ian Anthony Dale, Lateef Crowder, Mircea Monroe, Tamlyn Tomita, Candice Hillebrand, and directed by Dwight H. Little.

Looks like we’re still looking at a 2010 release, though when exactly is anybody’s guess.

See the rest of the new images and videos at our “Tekken” preview page.

Well at least this movie is going more the “Mortal Kombat” route and not the “Street Fighter” route. It looks to be at least trying to take the source material seriously. Plus real martial artists. I’m in.

Im really hoping for the best here. I really want it to be awesome, i wanna like it, but i just feel like because its a video game movie that its just Inevitably doomed to be medicore at best. These type of films all suffer from the same thing. I understand that its a video game movie, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be Pop-corny or cheesy, like most end up being. I just think the directors of video game adaptations have gone about it the wrong way over the years. There general lack of knowledge and hands on experiance with the source material leads them to almost think “well its a video game, so lets make it like a video game”. The director they have for this film doesn’t have an impressive track record. I like some of the casting and the fact that they are using a cast that actually has some credible martial arts or fighting background. That will help add realism. I also believe that this does look better then other video game movies of late, although thats not saying to much. Like i said i want to like it, and hopefully it turns out awesome because its my favorite fighting franchise, but to play it safe my expectations are going to be set low.

Chiaki Kuriyama is not in this movie, in a interview she did she told them she didn’t even know this was being made, so it was just fanboys wishful thinking

It’s crazy how much Jon Foo looks exactly like Goku! If Fox would have taken their time to make a REAL Dragon Ball movie, this guy would have been perfect and hiring the directors of Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer would have made the perfect Dragon Ball movie.
