Electric boogaloo Superman? What else needs to be said? That’s what you would have gotten had Tim Burton got his Superman movie “Superman Lives” off the ground (with Nicolas Cage as Superman), based on a script by Kevin Smith. The film would have followed Superman after his disastrous fight and “death” at the hands of the spikey Doomsday, to his resurrection.
Previously we saw test costumes for the movie (one of them is above), and now we have actual test footage of the suit Superman would have worn after his Doomsday fight. A reader on SlashFilm fills us in on what this blinking abomination is all about:
Having read the Kevin Smith script, I assume this is “the eradicator” suit. A krytonian life support suit with onboard AI and weapons. Basically turning the mortally injured Superman into Iron Man until he recovered from his fight with Doomsday. In THAT context it is innovative and inspiring work the likes of which we have yet to see on film ten years down the line.
It sounds a lot better than it looks, trust me.
So, why all the sudden are we getting a bunch of unused “Superman Lives” concept stuff? Some are guessing this is Warner Bros. trying to let people know just how lucky they are to have Zack Snyder directing the upcoming Superman movie instead of Tim Burton. Sounds a tad too smart for a studio to me, so I’ll just chalk it up to coincidence. People have had this stuff laying around their house/studio for years now and just decided to put them out there.
