I get the feeling the folks who wrote the screenplay for Paul W.S. Anderson’s “Pompeii” were watching James Cameron’s “Titanic” for the 50th time when they decided to write the script. It’s essentially the same movie, but instead of an iceberg, it’s an exploding volcano. Let’s see: rich girl falls in love with poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks, while rich girl’s much older/richer asshole boyfriend does asshole stuff like try to kill the poor boy. Then the iceberg hits — er, the volcano blows up — and everyone dies while poor boy and rich girl flee.
Except in this one they threw in a token black friend for the poor boy and there are like gladiator fights and stuff. I guess that’s kinda cool. Check out four clips and 40 plus new images from the movie below, check them outers.
Set in 79 A.D., “Pompeii” tells the epic story of Milo (Kit Harington), a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Cassia (Emily Browning), the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts in a torrent of blazing lava, Milo must fight his way out of the arena in order to save his beloved as the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles around him.
Starring Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Browning, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Paz Vega, Jessica Lucas, Jared Harris, and Kiefer Sutherland.
Blowing it up this February 21st.
