That Magneto Movie? Probably Never Gonna Happen…

And really, did anyone really think it was ever going to happen? I never did, and never actually thought it was entirely necessary. As in, at all. He’s already gotten three movies (via the “X-Men” films), so did we really need to see him in his very own special movie? Not so much.

So it probably comes as no surprise when “X-Men” producer Lauren Shuler told the boys at Crave just that when asked if there were any “heat” on the long-gestating “Magneto” solo movie:

No. You know, there’s internal discussions but probably not. It kind of got incorporated into this one, a lot of it.

By “this one” she means the Bryan Singer-produced and Matthew Vaughn-directed “X-Men: First Class”, currently in the early days of production Across the Pond. According to Shuler, a lot of Magneto stuff from David Goyer’s script have been incorporated into “First Class”.

Shuler also comments on the Ryan Reynolds situation with the “Deadpool” movie, and by “situation” I mean, “Where exactly is he going to get the time to front another major comic book franchise with all that ‘Green Lantern’ stuff he’s got going on over at Warner?”:

You know, Ryan is so committed to being Deadpool. He is Wade Wilson. Well, no, he’s Deadpool. He is so committed to it that he worked with the writers on the script. Even though he’s doing Green Lantern, he’s stayed involved in that project. I’m hoping we’ll get it off the ground next year.

She goes on to compare Reynolds doing both “Deadpool” and “Green Lantern” to Harrison Ford doing/being both “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones”, which I suppose makes sense.

Whatever the case, I would kill for a “Deadpool” movie. Yes, even more than a “Green Lantern” movie. Space alien cop is fine and all, but a “Deadpool” movie? That would be just aces.

AGREED!!! I’m a huge GL fan and have been wanting a movie and a series for the character forever, but a “Deadpool” flick, man that’d be crazy. I’m just curious if he’ll be doing voice over narrative as well. I love the comics now with him having like two distinct voices in his head as he thinks. brekaing the fourth wall is easy, tapping into his insanity, not so much. This movie needs a tone similar to like “Shoot em Up,” or “Kick-Ass.” Serious but still over the top and semi tongue in cheek.

Ryan Reynolds is just perfect as Deadpool I still hate the fact that he is playing GL. Comparing Han Solo and and Indiana Jones is wrong, that’s two different Genres. Granted that DP is a mercenary while GL is a space cop, they’re both prominent comic book characters. If they are to do a GL Trilogy, then it should be based on Hal Jordon GL #1, Jon Stewart GL(Black Actor) #2, and Kyle Rayner(Latino actor) GL #3. This way you’d get three different stories of three different GL’s with distinct backgrounds and Ryan Reynolds would be able to go on and do more DP movies.

If not Ryan Reynolds, I would’ve thought Chris Evans would make a fine Deadpool, but if these guys end up limiting themselves to one superhero franchise a piece, how about Bradley Cooper as DP? He doesn’t seem to be quite the natural comic that Reynolds and Cooper are, but I think he’s got the knack to make a decent motormouth smartass

He’d be a decent pick I guess if Reynolds doesn’t do it. But he’s so pretty. Would he want his face covered the whole film? Evans woulda been great too. But since he’s Cap, he’s definitely out even if Fox is making DP.

Bradley Cooper as Deadpool would be awesome if not Deadpool then he should be The Flash. I think having Green Lantern as a trilogy of three different GL’s and having their stories overlap with cameos would be the 1st time something like that happened in the cbm genre, if done right it could work.

Cooper as Flash would work. And the GL idea is awesome, have the final film have all the Earth GLs.

As attractive as Ryan Reynolds is, I still think that he must be Deadpool, all masked up and whatnot. Because you know that Fox will show his face several times (with or without ‘scars’), especially if there is an explanation of why Wade is Deadpool. He is my favorite comedic/action actor and is the only man for the job imho. Cooper as Flash would work, but I still think Bradley Cooper should have been cast as GL while Ryan works on Deadpool now and plays Flash in some 2-3 years.

And the Green Lantern idea (trilogy w/ a different GL every film) is OUTSTANDING! It would be a first in the Comic movie industry to actually have planned recasting. Plus, It would leave Ryan to do his thing and give other stars their chance to shine. Green light, of course…

Unfortunately that won’t happen. Reynolds is locked for the GL sequel I believe and they wouldn’t have him playing TWO of their big hitters (Yes in comics GL and Flash are big hitters and usually part of the core of the JL right behind the big three Bats, Supes and WW). So Cooper as Flash is our best bet.
