If the Brad Pitt movie “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” arrives in theaters with the title intact, then I’m going to have to give the producers some major props, because let’s face it, that title is almost as untenable as watching a movie about an outlaw played by pretty boy Brad Pitt who is destined to get gunned down by a sniveling little prick as played by Casey Affleck. Which is to say, “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” has the makings of a fantastic Western, the kind that can rejuvenate a genre, but somehow, I just don’t see a whole lot of people wanting to see it. Their loss, because from the looks of this latest “Jesse James” trailer, this thing might just be the best Western since “Unforgiven”. Maybe.
An action western surrounding the private life and public exploits of America’s most notorious outlaw, Jesse James. As the charismatic and unpredictable outlaw plans his next great robbery, he wages war on his enemies, who are trying to collect the reward money–and the glory–that is riding on his capture. However, the greatest threat to Jesse’s life may ultimately come from those he trusts the most.
Starring Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard, Mary-Louise Parker, Jeremy Renner, and directed by Andrew Dominik.
