In absence of actual movie news this long holiday weekend, today and for the rest of the week, I suspect, here are my picks for the best movie trailers of 2010, in no particular order, starting with …
Inception
The initial teasers for Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” told you nothing, but man oh man did they pull you in. Like the Wachowskis’ “What is the Matrix?” teasers for “The Matrix”, the “Inception” trailers, like the dream thieves in the movie, lured you in until you knew that you just had to see this thing. Even when full-length trailers revealed much of the plot, the power was still there.
Sucker Punch
Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch” packed quite the wallop. A mix of crazy Snyder hyper-style over substance, hot girls packing heat, and all set to pulse-pounding music? What’s not to like? The movie itself may end up being a disaster (later trailers, with, ahem, too much bad dialogue makes you kinda cringe), but the visuals are still incredible:
Battle: Los Angeles
“Skyline” may have been the first big Hollywood alien invasion movie to open, but it’s the haunting, visually stunning trailer for “Battle: Los Angeles” that may show the world what a real Hollywood alien invasion movie can do. This thing looks intense. “Black Hawk Down” with aliens? Hells yeah.
The Tree of Life
“The Tree of Life” is pure Terrence Malick. I don’t know what else to say. If you don’t know who Malick is, then you probably think this trailer is pure pretentious bullshit. Hell, I won’t disagree with you, he’s one of those guys who you either like or you don’t, and I ain’t gonna say which one is right, it’s completely up to you. But if you know who Malick is, and has seen his previous works, then you know this is the man at his purest.
What are your favorite trailers of 2010?
