Wes Ball’s “The Maze Runner”, based on the series of YA novels by James Dashner, has been running (ahem) surprisingly under the radar. Usually these movies based on YA novels have a ton of fanfare surrounding them, most of it generated by their readers. But the books were snapped up not all that long ago and the first film is already in production with an early 2014 release date penciled in, but I’ve hardly heard anything about it. Then again, I might not be paying attention, so that might have been it.
But if you were sitting at home wondering where all the male leads were in these YA novels set in a dysoptian future, wonder no more. “The Maze Runner” features a male lead, and here are your first five images from the upcoming movie.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, young Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they’re all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow “runners” for a shot at escape.
Starring Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen, Patricia Clarkson, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Will Poulter.
Running next year February 14, 2014.
