I’m really surprised the Drew Goddard/Joss Whedon horror send-up “The Cabin in the Woods” didn’t make more money. It’s the most original film to come around in a long while. Then again, I guess the “kids” just don’t need/want originality in their movies. Or maybe the film sold itself as too generic, which was necessary to hide its twists. Whatever the case, the film eventually topped off at $42 million domestically and $63 million worldwide, which, if you’re keeping track at home, doesn’t even come close to threatening the $205 million of the last “Paranormal Activity” movie. You know, the horror movie franchise about tedious ghost stuff happening from the POV of video cameras? Compared to that stale nonsense, “The Cabin in the Woods” is a rainbow of creativity.
But if you were one of the people who unfairly skipped the film when it opened earlier this Summer, here’s your chance to make up for that slight. The movie will be landing on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand and Pay-Per-View September 18th from Lionsgate, but you’ll be able to get it as a Digital Download two weeks before that on September 4th, 2012.
The film stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Amy Acker, and if you haven’t seen the movie yet, take note, this DVD/Blu-ray trailer pretty much gives away some of the film’s best-kept secrets.
